Mr. Tuxedo Formal Wear Rental and Sales Interview

mrtuxarticlemain_300When it comes to selecting a tuxedo, the groom has several important choices to make. After 40 years of providing formal wear to thousands of grooms in the Omaha area, Mr. Tuxedo can easily claim the title as the oldest and longest serving tuxedo store in town.

With such a long track record, OmahaBrides.com interviewed Bill Spire, owner of www.mrtuxedo.com to find out what a bride and groom should know about selecting a tuxedo and complementary accessories for their special wedding day.

Omaha Brides: Bill, there are several formal wear stores in our area to choose from…so what has been your secret in convincing so many grooms to choose Mr. Tuxedo?

Bill: Well, I guess we must be doing something right. (Laughter)  Seriously, I think there are several reasons.  First of all, I look at the service we provide through the eyes of our customers.  With so much to consider prior to a wedding, I simply try to make the selection process as quick and easy as I can.  Some might say we have great customer service, but I believe we have taken it to the next level.

Omaha Brides: What do you mean by the next level?

Bill: Customer service can mean many things, but we take the extra step of paying attention to all the details, so there are no slipups. For example, we are quick and yet efficient in making sure our fittings are absolutely perfect…and you will only spend 15 or 20 minutes to be properly sized. Also, we stand by our word. When we tell you your order will be ready at a certain time for pick-up, it will be ready. I guess it comes down to no excuses and no delays…you can depend on that.

Omaha Brides: You mentioned your emphasis on the perfect fit. Do I need to make an appointment for my perfect tuxedo fitting?

Bill: No, it’s not necessary to make an appointment…just come in at a time that is most convenient for you.

Omaha Brides: What can you do for me if I’m a hard-to-fit guy?

Bill: Whether you’re big or small…I think we can fit you. Our tuxedo sizes range from boy’s size 3 to men’s size 60…and above, in selected styles.  Extra longs are also available in most styles. In other words, we can fit almost anyone.

Omaha Brides: So how far in advance of the wedding should I make my choices as to what the men in my wedding party should wear?

Bill: I suggest two or more months before the wedding date.  Some even prefer to book their wedding six months or more ahead of time.  You definitely want to allow plenty of time for all the men and boys to come in at their convenience. As far as the actual fittings, I suggest everyone come in at least three weeks prior to the use date.  Allowing plenty of time for your order will reduce stress and increase the enjoyment of your special occasion.

Omaha Brides: I see your point, so when can we pick up our tuxedos?

Bill: Your tuxedos will be ready the day before the wedding.  They may be picked up after 3 PM on Thursday for a Friday rental…and after 11AM on Friday for Saturday and Sunday rentals.  It’s best to allow 15 or 20 minutes to try on the coat, pants, and shoes.  This assures us both that every tuxedo leaving our store fits properly.  If there are any adjustments necessary, they can usually be taken care of immediately.

Omaha Brides: But what if something comes up and I have to ask someone else to pick up my Tuxedo?

Bill: I would ask you to try it on as soon as you receive it.  If you have any concern about the fit, please contact us immediately by phone so we can remedy the situation before your event.

Omaha Brides: I can see you really focus on the details involved in creating the perfect fit and avoiding any potential problems.  But here’s an off-the-wall question. Do brides accompany the groom when they come in to see you?

Bill: You bet they do.  In fact, most brides want to take part in the selection process.  They are not only interested in the styles, but also the accompanying accessories. Many times the bride wants to mix matching colors with her wedding apparel, or that of the entire wedding party.  I have to admit these ladies have a keen eye for making the event a perfect occasion.

Omaha Brides: OK Bill, you’ve satisfied my curiosity and we’ve covered several important considerations, but I want to pick up on a comment you made earlier. You mentioned that customer service might mean many things to different people.  So what else does customer service mean to you?

Bill: Having a complete in-store inventory to choose from. Think about it.  Why look at pictures of tuxedos and then wait for your chosen style to be delivered?  Sure we special order from time to time, but a distinct majority of our customers tell us they are impressed and pleased with our wide variety of in-store styles and sizes to choose from. In-store inventory cuts down on the time you have to spend searching for the right tuxedo, and it creates a lot of referral business for us. I think our idea of what customer service should encompass has also made us the official outfitter for Omaha’s premier black-tie events such as the         AK-SAR-BEN Coronation, Debutante Ball, and Cotillion.

Omaha Brides: Well, congratulations Bill…that indeed is an honor.  It confirms the fact that you certainly must be doing something right. (Laughter) Is there anything else you would like to share with us?

Bill: Only this.  I would like to thank our many customers for choosing Mr. Tuxedo.  It’s been our pleasure to serve so many over the past years.  Finally, I would like to congratulate all wedding couples past, present and future, and my daughter Lisa and I wish them health and happiness.

Omaha Brides: Thank you Bill for sharing your thoughts and taking time to talk with us.

Bill: My thanks to you and Omaha Brides also.  If anyone has further questions, just give me a call.
