With so many photographers to choose from it can be a very daunting task for couples as you start your search. It is important to point out that photography styles vary amoung Omaha photographers and each one has their own artistic approach. Therefore, it is important to you choose a photographer that suits your style and vision of how you want your day to be presented pictorially.

How do you find a photographer?

Ask other wedding vendors who they recommend and why
Go to the local Omaha Bridal Shows
Get a referral from a friend who has already been married
Look in the phone book yellow pages under photography

Who do I choose?

Remember that whoever you choose as your photographer that this is someone that you will be spending the majority of your wedding day with. It is imperative that you genuinely like the person you hire. Omaha Brides advice amoung other things is to choose a photographer that is confident about their work and will stay in the background when traditional posed photos are not being taken. Jeremy with Contemporary Images Photography believes that a good photographer will get all the great shots without the Bride and Groom even realizing he is there half the time. In other words you should look for a photographer that is not going to be pushy and dominate your time on your Wedding Day.

How Much?

Not only do photography companies come with individual styles but they also come with different packages and pricing structures. Locally here in Omaha prices can range from $500.00 to $10,000 and the photography packages they offer depend on who you hire.

Why such a huge difference in prices?

Simply put, good photographers do not come cheap. This does not mean that lower priced photographers will do a sub par job. More expensive photographers often are full time with a professional studio and commercial location. Lower priced photographers my not be full time in the business and have other ways to supplement income. Price also depends on the package your photographer offers. Photography packages come in all shapes and sizes so it is important for you to know what kind of coverage and packages are important for you.

What's the best way for me to decide?

Always have a face to face meeting with your potential photographer and look at their work. The proof is in the pudding so looking at a photographers work will often answer a lot of your questions on what you will be getting. You will want to get to know your photographer and see what types of photography you will be receiving for your money.

What do you mean by "types" of wedding photography?

-Traditional photography includes portraits of bridal party and family - close-up and full length - and candid photographs that tell the story of the day. This is the style that suits most weddings.

- Wedding photojournalism means no posed photographs - all pictures would be taken without any instruction from or awareness of the photographer.

- Illustrative photography has drama, grand poses and majestic scenery. Every detail in the image is carefully arranged to produce a photograph with impact. Think of this style as what you would find in high-fashion photography - where even the candid photos are the results of precise posing and lighting.

- The Creative or impressionistic photographer creates images with the unusual angle or juxtaposition. The photographer is creating his or her artistic impression of your wedding day. The goal is to produce a limited number of art prints from your wedding.
Black and White photography is an elegant way to capture some Photojournalism type of photographs.

When should I book my photographer?

Once you are engaged and start the planning process your photographer is one of the first things you should take care of. In fact the top three things to take care of right away in order of importance is:
1) Wedding location
2) Reception location
3) Photographer.
In other words, get your photographer right away and start developing a relationship with that person.
